Born in Bethlehem and having extended family in Gaza, Dr. Fares Abraham muses on the danger of mixing theology and politics. He maintains that Christian Zionism offers no future for the thousands of Christians living in Gaza and the West Bank. “I've seen what happens when ideology hijacks our theology. Empathy disappears, justice is dismissed, and the people who live in the land are dehumanized.” Faced with the humanitarian catastrophe currently taking place in Gaza and the West Bank, Abraham calls on the US to advance justice, mutual respect, and lasting prosperity for all people.
Dr. Fares Abraham is a Palestinian-American and the founder of Levant Ministries. He grew up in Bethlehem and now leads several ministries across the Middle East to strengthen gospel witness and promote peace. His writings have appeared in Religion News Service, Sojourners, and Christianity Today. This article was published in Newsweek on April 11, 2025.
