Rabbi Brant Rosen describes his inability to celebrate Israel’s Independence Day because he knows that it coincides with the Nakba, Israel’s expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes. Instead of celebrating, Rosen calls for Jews “to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, to acknowledge the truth of their historic and ongoing dispossession, and to affirm a different reality: ‘where both peoples thrive – not one at the cost of another.’”

Brant Rosen serves as the rabbi of Tzedek Chicago, a synagogue he founded in August 2015. He is also the co-chairperson of the Jewish Voice for Peace Rabbinical Council. Rabbi Brant's writings have appeared in many  publications including Newsweek and the Chicago Tribune. He is the author of Wrestling in the Daylight: A Rabbi’s Path to Palestinian Solidarity. This article was posted on his blog on May 15, 2023.
