Is “Jewish Supremacy” Translating Into Anti-Christian Violence In Jerusalem?

During January of this year, five violent anti-Christian incidents in Jerusalem took place at the hands of Jewish radicals. These incidents took place in a toxic atmosphere of racism and discrimination fomented by groups wishing to impose an exclusively “Jewish character” on the city. In this opinion piece, Daoud Kuttab argues that the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians is a political one, and it should stay that way. Christians, Muslims and Jewish persons alike have strong spiritual bonds to Jerusalem. “It is no longer acceptable for Israel to pay lip service to freedom of religion and worship,” writes Kuttab, “when it fails to support its citizens who are not Jewish.”

Daoud Kuttab is a Palestinian journalist and media activist. He was born in Jerusalem, studied in the United States, and served as the Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University (’07-’08). An award-winning journalist and TV producer, Kuttab helped establish the Arabic Media Internet Network and the Arab world’s first internet radio station. He is currently the director general of Community Media Network (CMN), a not-for-profit media organization dedicated to advancing independent media in the Arab region. His op-ed columns have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and The Daily Telegraph.
