Five Reasons Why Huckabee Is Wrong on Israel
In February 2026 Tucker Carlson and Mike Huckabee engaged in a spirited and highly publicized discussion about American support for the nation for Israel. Huckabee did not say anything new; he simply expressed the common Christian Zionist arguments for the United States’ unwavering endorsement of Israel’s policies and actions.
New Testament scholar, Gary Burge, succinctly examines and critiques each of the five pillars of Christian Zionism. Did God eternally and unconditionally promise land to Israel? Is blessing Israel an obligation for today’s Christians? Is modern Israel a fulfillment of Bible prophecy? Can Israel’s contemporary opponents be equated with the ancient Amalekites? Are the present conflicts in the Middle East the prelude to Armageddon?
Burge concludes that “in the Bible, Israel’s blessings are tied to its covenant faithfulness. Modern Israel is secular and less religious than the United States, and barely reflects the ‘faith of Abraham.’ Christian Zionists are oddly silent about how the New Testament shifts ancient paradigms and opens a new chapter that is inclusive and hopeful.”
